Green Computing at Deutsche Bank - Addressing the challenge of eco-efficient IT in the enterprise
You’ll probably already know that Deutsche Bank is one of the World’s leading Global investment Banks. What may be less well understood is the size and complexity of the technology operation needed to keep Deutsche at the top. With ICT (information communication technology) energy requirements now accounting for in excess of 2% of all global CO2 emissions, Deutsche Bank are constantly on the look-out for innovative ways to lessen their Carbon Footprint and impact on the environment.
Steve Edwards from Deutsche Bank (a UCL - and TechSoc - Alumni) has very kindly offered to join us for what promises to be a lively and entertaining presentation. He’ll be taking a look at the specific challenges of making computing more ‘green’, the current work being done in this space and an exploratory glance into what the future may hold.
· What opportunities exist to make computing more 'green' – and what does this mean?
· What is the future of desktop computing and how does this align to eco-efficiency?
· How do we improve the eco-efficiency of our global data centres? (and what is a data centre?!)
· What is the Business Case for making these changes?
Anyone interested is more than welcome to attend, but this may be especially relevant to those studying computing or engineering as part of their degree, those interested in energy and the environment, and business or finance students who are interested to see some of the considerations of a large corporation with respect to eco-efficiency.
This is a rare opportunity to get a glimpse inside the world of technology within Investment Banking!
Where: Gordon Street (25), D103 When: Tuesday 18th January, 17:30 - 18:30 (with a trek over to the print room cafe afterwards for drinks) Cost: Free!
